WARD CROCKER D.MIN.

Professor of Philosophy and Apologetics

Ward Crocker serves as professor of Apologetics at Southern California Seminary, teaching in both the undergraduate and graduate Biblical Studies programs. He possesses a B.R.E. from Prairie Bible College (Alberta, Canada), a M.A. in Biblical Exegesis and Linguistics from Dallas Theological Seminary, a M.A. in Philosophy of Religion and Ethics from Talbot School of Theology, and a D.Min. in Engaging Mind and Culture from Talbot School of Theology. JAMES I. FAZIO TH.M., D.MIN.

Academic Dean, Professor of Biblical Studies

James Fazio has been in the field of education for most of his life. Beginning in the public sector, James taught as a para-educator for the San Diego Unified City School District, working with special education students at Alexander Graham Bell Middle School (1995-2000) and afterwards Junipero Serra High (2000-2005). In 2010 James entered private Christian higher education, teaching undergraduate courses in biblical studies. In the next year, James accepted the position as Dean of the College at SCS. J. HACK III, M.B.A., D.MIN.

DMin Program Coordinator, Professor of Applied Ministry

Dr. Joseph Hack is the Doctor of Ministry Program Coordinator at Southern California Seminary.  He also serves as Professor of Applied Ministry, specializing in stewardship and leadership. Dr. Hack retired from active duty with the United States Navy after 21 years of commissioned service and currently serves as the Executive Pastor of Westside Community Church in Chula Vista, California. Dr. Hack has served as an educator for more than 20 years since military retirement in both the public and private sectors. His first instructional appointment was as an adjunct instructor of management at the University of California San Diego Extension College.  In 2004 Dr. Hack entered private Christian higher education and has taught undergraduate and graduate courses in biblical studies, systematic theology, and applied/practical ministry before accepting the appointment as the Doctor of Ministry Program Coordinator at Southern California Seminary… SEE FULL BIO & EDUCATION

Margaret Hill, MACC, D.Min. Cand.

MACC Program Coordinator, Assistant Professor of Christian Counseling

Margaret Hill is the Master of Arts in Christian Counseling Program Coordinator at Southern California Seminary.  She also serves as the Academic Advisor and Assistant to the Dean for the Bible and Theology Program. Margaret has 18 years of experience teaching and training in various church and academic settings throughout the United States and is active in Christian Counseling in the local church and parachurch ministries. She is the author of 22 women’s Bible studies used in churches nationally and internationally. JEREMY LYON PH.D.

Adjunct Professor of Creation Studies

Dr. Lyon earned a B.A. in Religion from Carson-Newman College, a M.Div. in Advanced Biblical Studies and Biblical Languages, and a Ph.D. in Old Testament from Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary. His dissertation research was on “Qumran Interpretation of the Genesis Flood.” He also spent several months in Israel at the University of the Holy Land studying the Dead Sea Scrolls as part of his Ph.D. program. …. CORY M. MARSH PH.D.

Professor of New Testament

Cory Marsh is Professor of New Testament at SCS. A committed churchman, Cory is passionate about restoring the “pastor-scholar” role and is a four-time graduate of SCS: BA in Biblical Studies (summa cum laude); Master of Arts in Biblical Studies; Master of Divinity (academic distinction); and Master of Theology (academic distinction). Additionally, Cory received the Ph.D. in Biblical Theology at Midwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Kansas City, MO under the supervision of Andreas J. Köstenberger. Dr. Gino Pasquariello is the Provost and Chief Academic Officer at Southern California Seminary, El Cajon, CA. He also serves as professor of research, education, and applied biblical studies. Dr. Pasquariello received his Master of Arts in Theological Studies from Bethel Seminary, Doctor of Education in Higher Education Leadership from Azusa Pacific University, and Doctor of Ministry degree from Southern California Seminary. DIRK VAN PROYEN TH.M., D.MIN.

Professor of Homiletics

Dr. Dirk Van Proyen is passionate about teaching and preaching the Word of God with excellence. In preparation for his teaching and preaching ministry Dirk graduated from Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California and Dallas Theological Seminary. Dirk served professionally as a pastor for fifteen years. Dirk, as an entrepreneur, served as CEO and owner of two businesses over thirty years. Dirk has simultaneously maintained an active teaching and preaching schedule including teaching at Shadow Mountain Community Church and conference preaching and teaching. SOHRAB RAMTIN TH.M., D.MIN.

Professor of Intercultural Studies

Sohrab Ramtin is an adjunct professor at the Southern California Seminary. He teaches church history, world religions and Islamic studies. He is the ordained pastor of the Iranian Christian Church of San Diego (1990) and the Iranian Christian Church of El Cajon (2008), a congregation of Shadow Mountain Community Church. Also, he is a program producer for a Christian TV and radio network to Iran and Afghanistan. He is from Tehran, Iran, born in a Muslim family and grew up as a Muslim. Professor of Old Testament

Dr. John J. Yeo serves at Southern California Seminary as Professor of Old Testament. His primary interests lie within Old Testament interpretation and Biblical Theology. His publications include the chapter on “Ruth” in A Biblical-Theological Introduction to the Old Testament (Crossway, 2016), an extended article on “Name Theology” in The Lexham Bible Dictionary (Logos Bible Software, 2012), and book reviews in various theological journals. ELIZABETH ELENWO PH.D., PSY.D.

Dean of Behavioral Sciences

Dr. Elizabeth Elenwo is the Dean of the Graduate School of Behavior Sciences and a professor in the behavioral science program at Southern California Seminary (SCS). She also currently works at San Diego Christian College (SDCC) as assistant professor and at Pastoral Care facilitating domestic violence groups in SD. Prior to working at SCS Elizabeth was the deputy director of the Phoenix House in San Diego. Elizabeth was born in Nigeria, and has lived in Scotland and England, where she did her early Undergraduate and Postgraduate studies. JUDITH KAYE LAWRENCE PSY.D.

Dr. Kaye Lawrence is a Psychological Assistant (PSB32453) supervised by Dr. Melinda Reinicke. She has completed her doctorate in psychology and will soon take the examination for state licensure as a psychologist. With training in both clinical and educational counseling, Dr. Lawrence has taught in the United States, Mexico, Romania and India about Educational Psychology (Psycho Pedagogy). JENNIFER S. EWING MLIS, M.A.

Seminary Librarian

Jennifer S. Ewing has been the Library Director at Southern California Seminary (SCS) since 1998. She is active in the Association of Christian Librarians (ACL) where she served as a board member from 2012-2015 and in the Southern California Theological Library Association (SCATLA) where she served as president in 2007. She spent 16 years working as a reference librarian at the San Diego Public Library’s downtown Central Library and a few years working in the library at the Institute for Creation Research in Lakeside, CA. Nalani Hilderman, MA, PhD (ABD)

Adjunct Professor of American History

Nalani Hilderman is an Adjunct Professor teaching U.S. history and government.  She is also a professor at San Diego Christian College.  She is a graduate of Christian Heritage College and Baylor University with degrees in American History and is in her final year as a doctoral student in the Helms School of Government at Liberty University.  Her Ph.D. will be in public policy with an emphasis on social policy.  Her research interests are American religious history, women’s history, post-WWII social history, Christianity in the public square, and Natural Law.  Nali worked in Washington, D.C., during the Bush Administration at two small Christian non-profits.  Now back in San Diego, she enjoys reading and being outdoors as much as possible… SEE FULL BIO & EDUCATION

David Hillaker, M.S.

Adjunct Professor of Natural Science

David Hillaker is an adjunct professor at SCS, teaching various science courses. He graduated from Biola University with a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry, and then completed a Master of Science in Biology at the Institute for Creation Research. He has taught in the Science Department at San Diego Christian College for over 20 years, 13 of those years as the Science Department Chair. He has been married to his wife, Dianna, for over 25 years, and has one son, Daniel. David is also a member of Hill Country Community Church in Lakeside where he serves as an elder and head usher.

I grew up in Taiwan, accepted Christ as my personal Savior at the age of twelve. After received a BA in Foreign Language and Literature from National Taiwan University, Taipei, Taiwan, I came to the States for further study. I received a Master Degree in Library Science from University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan. I worked part-time in Cleveland Museum of Art and finished my BFA in Graphic Design from Cleveland Institute of Art. While working in San Diego Christian College library I continued my study through the Extension Program from California State University, Dominguez Hills, California. and received a Master Degree in humanities. Ron Barnes, Th.M. Ph.D.

Professor Emeritus

Ronald Barnes lived the fruitful life of a minister of the Gospel, having served as a professor of Biblical Studies first at San Diego Christian College (1991-2009) and afterwards at Southern California Seminary (2009-2017). Over that same period he ministered as a teaching elder at Grace Fellowship of San Diego, before accepting the role of Pastor at Casa de Oro Baptist Church in Spring Valley, CA.

Ron received his BA in Biblical Studies from SDCC, his Th.M from Dallas Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D in Systematic Theology from SCBC&S. In 2017 Ron stepped into the presence of the Lord to receive his Hero’s Welcome.

GARY COOMBS D.MISS.

President

Dr. Gary Coombs has been the President of Southern California Seminary since 1996 in El Cajon, CA. In addition he has also served as Missions Pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church since 1988. He is responsible for shepherding the more than 120 missionary families of Shadow Mountain as well as for the training and preparation of new missionaries. In the past he has planted Southeast Asian churches and coordinated refugee resettlement in San Diego County. Dr. Coombs has served in full-time ministry for over forty years and holds doctorate degrees from both Southern California Seminary in El Cajon and Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon… SEE FULL BIO & EDUCATION

Fletcher Hills Bible Church of El Cajon founded Fletcher Hills Bible College as an extension ministry in 1970. The four-year college began with a class of eight students, and the first Bachelor of Arts degrees were awarded in the spring of 1973. The college was restructured in 1976 as a nonprofit corporation with the name Southern California Bible College. Dr. David Jeremiah, is Chancellor for SCS, founder of Turning Point Radio and Television Ministries and senior pastor of Shadow Mountain Community Church, felt God’s calling on his life at a very early age. Born February 13, 1941 in Toledo, Ohio, Dr. Jeremiah was raised in a family deeply committed to ministry. At the age of eleven, Dr. Jeremiah and his family moved to Dayton, Ohio where his father, Dr. James T. About the SCS Faculty Senate

Faculty Senate is involved with making recommendations to the Academic Affairs Committee on the formulation of curricular and academic matters; including: curriculum changes such as course additions, modifications and deletions, divisional additions and deletions, and reviews guidelines regarding biblical integration, the school’s philosophical position on academic freedom, academic standards for the school, faculty policies and similar matters. The Senate has three elected officers: a chair, vice-chair and secretary and written bylaws. It holds meetings of the faculty at least once per module.
