GRADUATE Behavioral Sciences
AT SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA SEMINARY
GRADUATE BEHAVIORAL SCIENCES
The Graduate School of Behavioral Sciences prepares believers to impact the world through effectively ministering to individuals and families with emotional, psychological, or relationship struggles. Several of our degrees are used for obtaining a state license to advance your counseling career or prepare you to lead in an academic or ministerial setting. SCS and its faculty members believe in the Bible as the inerrant Word of God and teach counseling and psychological research, skills, and principles upon this foundation.
“At SCS, we believe the foundation for truth is found in the Bible—the inerrant Word of God—and all learning and practice must be filtered through the Scripture. We see a great need for competent clinicians to be trained with the skills and conversant in the latest research from the field of psychology.” – Dean of Grad. Behavioral Sciences, Elizabeth Elenwo, Psy.D.
Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (MACP)
The curriculum leading to the MACP degree is designed to prepare students for individual, marriage, family, or child counseling in vocational, church, private, or institutional settings. The MACP (Licensure Track) is focused on preparing students to be licensed in California as a Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Licensure in other states is possible, but not guaranteed and we recommend you review the requirements of your state’s licensing board. The MACP (Non-Licensure Track) is designed for students who want to gain the counseling skills and learn the scientific research provided by psychology without desiring licensure or to provide the educational foundation to enter a PSYD degree program focused on gaining licensure in California as a psychologist.
Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy (MAMFT)
The curriculum leading to the MAMFT degree is designed to prepare students for working with couples and families as a Marriage and Family Therapist in California. The MAMFT degree teaches students to incorporate popular family systems theories with other psychological, empirically-validated theories and techniques to tailor effective therapy for each individual, couple, or family. Licensure in other states is possible, but not guaranteed and we recommend you review the requirements of your state’s licensing board.
Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.)
Non-Clinical
The Doctor of Psychology (PsyD) program provides students with a biblically based training program, designed to equip them for ministry opportunities in the local church, private practice counseling, or service in organizational and institutional settings. This unique integration of psychology and theology will prepare students to impact individuals, families, and communities with counseling skills and psychological tools, encompassed in a genuine spiritual environment. The program will also prepare the student for practicing as a psychologist in California.
