ANSWERING THE CALL: MEETING THE NEED
Recognizing the critical need in these unprecedented times, especially within our churches, Call to Care was created in response to the concerns of pastors and pastoral students at Southern California Seminary.
Students emphasized the urgent need to equip lay leaders to address complex counseling challenges in churches and communities. It became clear that the local church is uniquely positioned to model Christ’s mission of love, care, and hope for those in need.
Call to Care is a training curriculum designed to equip and train believers for a ministry of compassionate care in the local church. Its goals are twofold: (1) development of a lay counseling ministry (2) development of lay counseling leaders in the SCS Master of Arts in Christian Counseling program.
Call to Care reflects the Mission Statement of SCS: To bring glory to God by assisting local churches to equip believers of various cultures and languages to live and minister biblically based on the inerrant Word of God. This equipping includes building biblical knowledge, Christian character, and ministry skills—all at modest tuition.
To see every local church flourish as a compassionate, Christ-centered community where individuals are equipped and empowered to care for one another in love, reflecting God’s heart for His people.
To create trained and caring communities within the local church.
To equip believers with practical skills and spiritual wisdom in order to care for others in moments of need. This includes those who feel called to care as mentors, discipling others, leading a small group, or just meeting one-on-one with others.
Duration: 18 hours, divided into 3 sessions (Each focused on specific areas of care).
Format: A mix of teaching, role-playing, case studies, and group discussions.
Outcome: Believers will be equipped to identify, understand, and respond compassionately to those in distress.

Together we’ll rediscover the heart of care through worship, powerful keynote messages, fellowship, and practical workshops. Come Friday evening and Saturday as we learn to see people as God sees them, serve with love, and reflect the hope of the gospel in every act of care
