Graduate School of Behavioral Sciences

The Graduate School of Behavioral Sciences prepares believers to impact the world through effectively ministering to individuals and families with emotional, psychological, or relationship struggles. The degrees are used for obtaining a state license to provide professional counseling in a variety of settings or for educational purposes to equip ministry leaders. SCS and its faculty members believe in the Bible as the inerrant Word of God and teach counseling and psychological research, skills, and principles upon this foundation.

Much of the coursework and textbooks will be consistent with other schools leading to licensure, but courses include more discussion on the theories and techniques in comparison to biblical truth and on the impact of faith and values in ethical counseling. Our graduates excel in clinical and cultural competency and appreciate the strong biblical foundation of our faculty and programs.

Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology (MACP)

The curriculum leading to the MACP degree is designed to prepare students for individual, marriage, family, or child counseling in vocational, church, private, or institutional settings. The MACP (Licensure Track) is focused on preparing students to be licensed in California as a Marriage and Family Therapist or Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor. Licensure in other states is possible, but not guaranteed and we recommend you review the requirements of your state’s licensing board. The MACP (Non-Licensure Track) is designed for students who want to gain the counseling skills and learn the scientific research provided by psychology without desiring licensure or to provide the educational foundation to enter a PSYD degree program focused on gaining licensure in California as a psychologist.

Welcome to the Graduate School of Behavioral Sciences (GSBS) at Southern California Seminary! At SCS, we believe the foundation for truth is found in the Bible, the inerrant Word of God and all learning and practice for Christians must be filtered through the Truth we have in Scripture. We also see a great need for competent clinicians to be trained with the skills and research from the field of psychology. We believe it honors God to study and understand people, neurobiology, human development, psychopathology and the scientific research and tools from the field of psychology. In our effort to understand people and how to effectively bring help and health, we honor the Creator.
